Focus for 2015 + Poor Student 200K Audax ride

I haven't got off to a very good start with the blog in 2015. In fact 2014 was a bit light on material too but my focus has been quality not quantity (although I really cannot judge the quality! ;-) After all who really wants to hear about my weekly ElliptiGO training which mainly consists of my long dark cold commutes into work....

2015 is all about one thing - PBP (Paris Brest Paris) Held every four years, PBP is a 1,200km (745-mile) randonnee cycling event running between the French cities of Paris and Brest, with a time limit of 90 hours (within which riders must get from Paris to Brest – and back again). Over 5,000 riders took part in PBP 2011 and up to 6,500 participants are expected to ride in PBP 2015. I will be joining a team of ElliptiGO riders to take on this beast and its already demanding my full attention and respect.

Training starting on 3rd January with the first PBP qualifying ride (you need to complete a 200/300/400/600k rides to qualify). I wanted to dive straight in early to get focused and motivated. It was a tough day out of the saddle as myself and 5 others took on the Audax - Poor Student ride from Oxford out to the Cotswold's and back. There is no need for me to go into any detail of the ride as fellow rider and friend (and the brain child behind the PBP ElliptiGO team) captured our ride on film which you can view here.

The next qualifying ride is gonna be a smasher in April returning to Wales and the stomping ground of the Mille Cymru. This ride will be considerably shorter at just 300k but with a lot of vert and early in the season that why training has already started.

So expect many more posts throughout the first half of the year all about my build up to PBP and my love for the ElliptiGO. Oh and I'm back to the South Downs Way 100 in June to wrap up unfinished business after my failure to finish it in 2012 after pulling myself out at 83 miles.
